Error:
Windows cannot find Deskedit.exe. This file is needed for opening files of type 'Text Document'
Cause:
Norton Desktop for Windows, one of the Norton utilities, has been deleted from the computer, causing Windows 95 to lose the association with the .TXT files.
Solution:
Re-associate text files with Notepad.
1) Open Windows Explorer:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the Windows 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' from the menu. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Windows Explorer' from the submenu. (The Exploring window appears.)
2) Select the 'View' menu and select 'Options...'. (The Options dialog box appears.)
3) Click the 'File Types' tab.
4) Select 'Text Document' from the 'Registered file types' list box.
NOTE: Scroll the scroll bar down to locate the 'Text Document' entry.
5) Click 'Edit...'. (The Edit File Type dialog box appears.)

6) Click 'Edit...' in the 'Edit File Type' dialog box. (The Edit action for type: Text Document dialog box appears.)

7) Do one of the following to specify the path to the Notepad application file NOTEPAD.EXE:
a) Type the path and filename in the 'Application used to perform action' box.

b) Click 'Browse...':
1] Click 'Browse...'. (The Open With dialog box appears.)
2] Select the drive where Notepad is installed from the 'Look in' drop-down list.

3] Select the folder that contains NOTEPAD.EXE. (The file is displayed.)
NOTE: If the file is in a subfolder, continue selecting folders until the file is displayed.
4] Select the file. (The file is highlighted.)

5] Click 'Open'.
8) Click 'OK' to close the 'Edit action for type: Text Document' dialog box. (The Edit File Type dialog box reappears.)
9) Click 'Close' to close the 'Edit File Type' dialog box. (The Options dialog box reappears.)
10) Click 'Close' to close the 'Options' dialog box. (The Exploring window reappears.)
11) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to exit Windows Explorer.
